The Vigilance Bureau (VB), Ludhiana, has arrested ASI Partap Singh, posted at the Marado police post under the Ludhiana Sadar police station, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000. During search of his vehicle, the VB team has also recovered Rs 32,000.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson for the state Vigilance Bureau said the policeman was arrested on a complaint lodged by Gurjit Rai of Shimlapuri.
He said the complainant had approached the VB and stated that a police case was registered against him at the police station and ASI Partap Singh was the investigating officer (IO) in the case.
He alleged that the ASI had taken his mobile phone, laptop and some documents during investigation without any documentation.
The complainant further alleged that after getting bail he met the ASI to get back his belongings, but he demanded a bribe of Rs 40,000 and had taken Rs 20,000 as the first instalment in lieu of returning some of the articles to him. He stated that later, the ASI was demanding the remaining bribe amount to return his other items.
The spokesperson said after preliminary verification of the allegations levelled in the complaint, the VB team laid a trap during which the policeman was arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. — TNS
