Unidentified assailants allegedly attacked the sarpanch of Gorahoor village, Sidhwan Bet, and some panchayat members during a thanksgiving rally in the village on Tuesday.

Complainant Manjinder Singh told the Sidhwan Bet police that on October 15, newly elected sarpanch Jasvir Kaur, along with panch Mahinder Kaur, panchayat members and supporters, was taking out a thanksgiving rally in the village. When they reached near the house of Harbans Singh, members of their rival group namely Lakhvir Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Manpreet Singh, Randeep Singh, Chamkor Singh, Jagdeep Singh, Baljinder Singh, Avtar Singh and Manjot Singh cornered them.

“We requested them not to create any scene in the village, but they started abusing us. They also attacked us with sticks and threatened to kill us. When other villagers started gathering, the suspects fled the spot. The police registered a case against them suspects yesterday,” said the complainant.
