At 19.4°C, city warmest in state
The highest maximum temperature in the state was recorded in Ludhiana today. The city experienced a warm day and sun shone brightly throughout the day.
The maximum temperature recorded was 19.4°C, according to the Meteorological Department, Chandigarh. The minimum temperature was recorded at 7.8°C. The day had a foggy start, but as it progressed, it became bright and sunny.
“The days are getting warmer and it seems winter is over. It is only during early morning and late evenings that one feels the chill in the air, while during the day it is quite warm,” said Jyotika, a city resident.
According to the Meteorological Department of Punjab Agricultural University, there is possibility of fog during the morning hours on Friday. PAU experts advised the farmers that they should give light and frequent irrigation to protect the crop from cold conditions.
Giving advice about animal husbandry, experts said that during winter, farmers should allow proper ventilation at the animal sheds so that excess moisture gets released during the day. Clean air will push moisture away and respiratory problems will be reduced. “Bedding should be provided for the comfort of animals during winter. For this, rice straw can be used as it efficiently absorbs liquid excreta and keeps the floor dry,” the experts maintained.
