Ludhiana, August 11

Avleen Kaur from Amritsar and Namish Khanna from Jalandhar, romped home in the girls and open categories, respectively, in the two-day Punjab State Open and Girls (U-11) Chess Championship, organised by the Ludhiana District Chess Association which concluded here on Sunday.

In the open category, Kritagya Singh Ludhiana secured the second position while Anantveer Singh (Bathinda), Teg Fateh Singh (Ludhiana) and Aarav Arora (Bathinda) finished at the third, fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Similarly, in the girls’ section, Radhya Malhotra of Jalandhar finished as the first runners-up while Tanvir Kaur (Jalandhar), Hargundeep Kaur (Ludhiana) and Aishani Duseja (Bathinda) secured the third, fourth and fifth position, respectively.

Awadh Khanna from Ludhiana was awarded the youngest player medal and Anaika Aggarwal, also of Ludhiana, received the same in the girls’ section.

Top two players from each category have been selected to represent Punjab in the National (U-11) Chess Championship slated to be held in October at Hyderabad.
