Balgeet of Hoshiarpur wins cross-country event

Balgeet Kaur of Hoshiarpur came out triumphant in cross country race in the girls U-19 category in the ongoing 69th Punjab State Inter-District School Games being organised by the Punjab Education Department at Guru Nanak Stadium here on Monday.

Ramanjeet Kaur of Sangrur secured second position while Tanvir Kaur of Hoshiarpur finished at third place. In the 400m race (girls U-19), Maya (Jalandhar), Gurmandeep Kaur (Patiala) and Khushpreet Kaur (Sangrur) secured top three positions.

In cross country (boys U-19), Jashanpreet Singh of Amritsar proved his mettle, clinching top position while Amritsar’s Karanvir Singh and Jaspreet of Bathinda Kuda wing finished as first and second runner-up, respectively.

In javelin throw (girls U-17), Manpreet Kaur of Sangrur emerged winner, while Veerpali of Muktsar and Komalpreet Kaur of Bathinda bagged top three positions. In the girls U-17 section (200m race), Kashish of Sangrur finished ahead of others to clinch top honours and Manmeet Kaur of Patiala finished as runner-up, while Jashandeep Kaur of Tarn Taran clinched the third position.

In the girls U-14 section (200m race), Japneet Kaur (Sangrur), Gagandeep Kaur (Mansa) and Manseerat Kaur (Sangrur) secured the top three positions. In the triple jump event (boys U-19), Jagmel Singh of Sangrur emerged victorious. Udayvir Singh of Tarn Taran secured second position and Teerath Raj of Fazilka finished at third place.

In lawn tennis matches held at Jassowal Kular village, in the boys U-17 group, Hoshiarpur beat Sangrur 2-0, Kapurthala beat Fatehgarh Sahib 2-0, Ropar beat Nawanshahr 2-0, Mohali beat Mansa 2-0, Amritsar beat Malerkotla 2-0 and Patiala beat Faridkot 2-0.

In the boys U-14 category, Malerkotla beat Fazilka 2-0, Mohali beat Fatehgarh Sahib 2-1, Mohali beat Sangrur 2-1, Pathankot beat Jalandhar 2-0, Ludhiana beat Kapurthala 2-0 and Barnala beat Faridkot 2-0.

In U-19 category, Ropar beat Jalandhar 2-0, Malerkotla beat Ludhiana 2-0, Sangrur beat Faridkot 2-0, Mansa beat Moga 2-1, Kapurthala beat Bathinda 2-0 and Hoshiarpur beat Mohali 2-0.
