Ludhiana: Two students of BCM Arya have won top positions at the UPU International Letter Writing competition organised by the Department of Posts. Kritika Garg of Class X secured the first position with a cash prize of Rs 25,000, while Bandagi Kaur of Class V bagged the second position and a cash prize of Rs 10,000. Both the participants expressed their thoughts in a letter to reflect on the future of the world under the theme: ‘At 150, the UPU has served people around the world for more than eight generations. The world has changed enormously since then. Write a letter to future generations about the world you hope they inherit.’ The UPU organised the 53rd International Letter-Writing Competition in partnership with UNICEF, to empower children and youth worldwide by encouraging literacy and creativity through the art of letter writing. The campaign aimed to provide a platform to the youth, in the lead up to the Summit of the Future and the 35th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, to share their perspectives on the world and the legacy they wish the future generations to inherit.

Gujranwala guru nanak institute

Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology (GGNIMT), Ghumar Mandi, is organising four skill development workshops for the senior students of GGN Public School (GGNPS). The workshops are mandated by the CBSE with the objective of promoting professional skills in various domains. As many as 79 students of GGNPS have opted for these workshops. These workshops are being conducted by the senior faculty of GGNIMT. Manjit Singh Chhabra, director GGNIMT, stated that the purpose of these workshops was to facilitate the skill development of school students in the domains of their choice. Disciplines in which these week-long workshops are being offered are stocks and investment management, handling bakery preparations, entrepreneurship and video editing.

Khalsa college for women

A plantation drive was organised by the Alumni Association, NCC, NSS and Eco Club of Khalsa College for Women in collaboration with Bal Vikas Trust. The event was organised to mark Van Matosav by planting saplings of a variety of fruits and ornamental plants on the college campus. This year’s theme was ‘each one plant one’. Volunteers from all units of the college carried out the drive along with the guests. Dr Rachna Sharma, vice-president, Alumini Association of KCW and social activist along with members of Bal Vikas Trust Sunita Mahindra, Neelam Sareen, Gagan Rishi, among others were present on the occasion. A variety of plants such as Hetty Tecoma, Hibiscus and Lagerstroemia along with fruit trees were planted in the KCW gardens.

Gulzar group of institutions

A three-day Vikram Sarabhai Space Exhibition will be organized from July 22 to 25 by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) at Gulzar Group of Institutions, Khanna. In the exhibition, students of educational institutions of the Ludhiana district will be able to explore the wonders of the outer space. Satellite systems and orbit models ranging from Aryabhata to Chandrayaan-3 will be displayed during this exhibition. Meanwhile, people from across Punjab, including Ludhiana, will see the development of India’s space efforts through interactive exhibitions. ISRO Senior Scientist Paresh Sarwaiah while sharing information about this exhibition said that ISRO aimed to make students aware of the work being done by the organisation. He said that apart from informing them about science, technology and space, the event will inspire the next generation by introducing them to the lives of great personalities like Vikram Sarabhai, Kalpana Chawla and Abdul Kalam. Further, an ISRO team will visit the city on July 20 to screen a documentary on the organisation’s missions. An album containing rare photographs of Sarabhai will also be displayed.

BCM, Dugri

A session on the importance of traffic rules and road safety was conducted at BCM, Dugri. The event aimed to highlight the critical role these elements play in ensuring public safety. The resource persons included Inspector Balwinder Singh from the Ludhiana traffic police; Manmeet Singh, a government resource person, and constable Jasvir Singh. The session underscored the fact that traffic rules were essential for maintaining order on the roads, preventing accidents and protecting lives. Participants were educated on various traffic regulations, including speed limits, the importance of wearing seat belts and adhering to traffic signals. The session also addressed the severe consequences of traffic violations, which can lead to hefty penalties, legal repercussions and, most importantly, the tragic loss of life. Real-life case studies were presented to illustrate the devastating impact of reckless driving and non-compliance with traffic rules.
