As the protest of BJP councillors against the MC Mayor, Inderjit Kaur, entered the sixth day, party workers started a ward-wise protest in the city.

The protests, led by Rajesh Mishra in Ward No 34; Pallavi Vipin Vinayak in Ward No 3; Suman Verma in Ward No 70; and Sunil Modgil in Ward No 62, were aimed at raising awareness about the ‘Aam Aadmi Party’ government’s alleged misleading of the public in the name of development.

Mishra stated that sanitation work had been stalled in many areas due to a shortage of sweepers and the lack of sewerage workers was hindering sewer cleaning. He criticised the Municipal Corporation for failing to fill vacant positions and to address the staff shortage.

He also pointed out the poor management of machinery and a lack of essential materials, which had led to the poor civic conditions in the city. He highlighted overflowing garbage, blocked sewers and broken drains as a clear evidence of the corporation’s failure.

Despite repeated complaints, the MC Commissioner, Mayor, and other officials were not taking any action, he alleged.

Verma said the MC had dug up all three main roads in her ward a month ago. With the monsoon season, these roads had become large pits, causing daily accidents and injuries.

Mayor hasn’t visited Zone-D office since August 1

It was learnt that the Mayor and AAP MLAs held a closed-door meeting in Zone-A to discuss the ongoing issue. However, neither the Mayor nor the MLAs disclosed any details about what was discussed. There is hope the meeting might lead to the end of the protest at the Zone-D office. Meanwhile, an official from the MC stated that they were frustrated with the continuous protests at their office, which were disrupting their work. The official specifically said the loud speakers were making it impossible to work. They emphasised that the issue needs to be resolved, noting that the Mayor hasn’t visited the Zone-D office since August 1.
