Blind murder cracked, juvenile among two land in police net
The Meharban police cracked the blind murder case in which a 45-year-old man was stabbed to death by two unidentified bike-borne assailants outside his house in the Meharban area in front of his son on July 10.
Two suspects, including one juvenile who also stays in Meharban, were arrested by the police. The victim, Tilakraj, a Nepalese man, had recently shifted to the city from Kurukshetra, Haryana.
ADCP Mandeep Singh and Meharban SHO inspector Paramdeep Singh addressed a press conference in this regard on Tuesday.
Police officials said on July 10, around 8:30 pm, Tilakraj was murdered by some unidentified persons near Gujjar Bhawan, Rahon Road. Regarding the incident, a case was registered on July 11 against the suspects at the Meharban police station and an immediate investigation was launched to crack the case.
Inspector Paramdeep said on July 14, Gabbar Singh (25), a resident of Mohalla Hargobind Vihar, was arrested from Rahon Road, at a naka in the presence of the deceased’s son, Jagdish. Based on his disclosure, the second suspect, a juvenile from Desu Colony, Meharban, was also arrested by the police on July 15. On the disclosure of the suspects, the weapon used in the crime, an iron dagger, and a white Honda Activa scooter were seized. The suspects were presented before the court and a police remand was obtained for further in-depth investigation.
The suspects had no criminal background. Gabbar was once taken into prevented custody by the police, he said.
The SHO said the suspects’ were staying at a distance of about one km from the house of the victim. On July 10 night, when they noticed a person roaming alone in the area, they decided to commit a loot. When the victim, in defence, snatched the key of their scooter and tried to raise the alarm, a juvenile, who was carrying the dagger, attacked him and fled the scene.
“It was a blind murder case. Even the CCTV footage was blur, which could not help the police in the probe. It was human intelligence and technical investigation conducted by the police that led to the cracking of the case,” he added.
