Body of woman found in canal, suicide suspected

The body of a woman was found in Gill canal last night. She is suspected to have died by suicide. An envelope was also found on the bank of the canal and when divers checked it, they found the woman’s Aadhaar card and the mobile number of her family members, who were then informed. The deceased has been identified as Prem Lata, a resident of Kakowal Road.

Reportedly, the woman was suffering from a serious blood disorder. Distressed by her illness, she took the extreme step. Prem Lata left her home around 4 am on Monday and did not return. Following information from divers, the woman’s body was taken to the Civil Hospital mortuary in the presence of police.

Bunty, her son, said his mother had a blood cell problem. She had to receive blood cell transfusions every few months. He said she disappeared from the house on Monday. CCTV footage showed her leaving with an envelope. ASI Kuldeep Singh said the deceased was distressed due to the illness.
