The residents of Ward 11 here have been left to their fate as the councillor has done nothing substantial to resolve their issues. The residents said they were in no mood to give a second chance to candidates who contest just to satisfy their hunger for power and position.
“The streets are broken and uneven, and as soon as it rains, these get flooded and life comes to a standstill. Residents have been urging the council to fix this problem for years, but they remain unmoved,” said Navneet Kaur, a resident of the ward.
The residents said a 6 ft tall and 160 ft wide wall had been constructed around the primary school in the ward, and it “astonishingly has no beams or pillars.” “It is dangerous for the students studying in the school and residents residing on the other side of the school,” shared Kuldeep Singh, a resident.
“The school ground has been closed permanently. With no parks in the ward, the ground was the only place for the children to play and the elderly to walk in during the morning and evening hours,” he added.
“Residents have to make fervent appeals to the sweepers to get them to lift the garbage piling up in the streets. The foul smell emanating from the decaying garbage is unbearable. It is only when we raise our voice that the garbage is lifted. The sweeper does not sweep the streets for days altogether either,” shared resident Makkan Singh.
“No speed-breakers have been made, despite our repeated request to the councillor,” said a resident. “Streetlights in the ward are lying defunct due to the absence of repairs. The moment it gets dark, residents dread loitering on the streets. We have informed the councillor of our problems time and again but to no avail,” shared another resident.
