The aftermath of the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) victory in the Ludhiana West byelection has allegedly ignited a storm within the Punjab Congress, revealing internal tensions and leadership disagreements.

According to party insiders, Bharat Bhushan Ashu, who was defeated in the contest, has said he neither acknowledges party leader Simarjit Singh Bains as a Congress man nor considers him fit for the party.

He also questioned the decision to consider Bains a part of the party, saying that he did not share that view. He criticised the lack of collective decision-making in the party.

He said he holds no personal grudge against Bains and said: “I fought the election and the loss was mine.”

Ashu, who was serving as the working president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee resigned from the post on Monday after the declaration of the results and took full responsibility for the defeat.
