Camp on livestock infertility organised at vet university
Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana, organised an awareness camp to spread awareness about livestock infertility at Qila Raipur village. It was sponsored by ICAR under the Farmer FIRST project.
To combat the problem of infertility among productive dairy animals of the village, the camp was planned under the guidance of Dr Ravinder Singh Grewal, Director of Extension Education-cum-Nodal Officer, and Dr Parminder Singh, Principal Investigator (PI) of the project. The camp was coordinated by Dr Rajesh Kasrija, Dr Bilawal Singh and Dr Parteek Singh Dhaliwal, CoPIs. In the camp, dairy animals, including cattle and buffaloes, were treated for infertility.
Dr Rajesh and Dr Bilawal examined and treated the infertile dairy animals. Among various causes of infertility, anestrous, follicular cyst, silent heat, etc, were detected during the examination of the animals and the treatment was provided accordingly. Creating awareness regarding the causes of infertility, Dr Rajesh highlighted economic losses in terms of overall productive life of the dairy animals, decrease in milk production and delay in calving, etc., due to infertility.
