Ludhiana: “Dancers are athletes of God,” said Albert Einstein, keeping this in mind an event, “Tapping Feet” was organised by the University Institute of Laws, Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana, under the guidance of Prof Aman Amrit Cheema under the supervision of Vaishali Thakur along with Rajni Bagga. The students beautifully showcased their talents and bagged prizes, divided into three categories —Solo Prize, which was bagged by Harkirat Singh; Duet Prize won by Sanya and Tanya; and Group Prize claimed by Gursharan Kaur, Simrandeep Kaur, Sukhleen Kaur, Ravneet Kaur, Nikita, Chahat, Ishika, Shruti Dhand, Khushpreet and Dilpreet Kaur. Student coordinators Jesus Goyal, along with Divroop Kaur, Manasdeep Singh and Tajveer Singh ensured the event was successful.

A three-day workshop on ‘Wealth Management’ was organised by the Industry Institute Interface Cell of Kamla Lohtia SD College, Ludhiana. The primary aim of holding the workshop was to impart knowledge about fund management among students from commerce streams and guide them about the means and ways to build, diversify and enhance their income. Day One of the workshop began with an elaborative talk on mutual funds as a key to wealth management by Anoop Sood, Ludhiana cluster head, HDFC Asset Management Company Limited. Sood said mutual funds was the safest and most profitable investment option and described how the right selection of mutual funds could help earn sound returns, withstanding the uncertainties of stock market. Day Two of the workshop focused on the detailed description of various avenues for investment such as gold, fds, stocks, bonds and mutual funds etc. The resource person for Day two was JC CA Harpreet Singh, zone trainer, JCI, India. He described wealth as a means of financial freedom. Elaborating different investment options, he highlighted the significance of mutual funds and expressed ‘compounding’ as the most important for reaping best returns from long term investments. Day Three of the workshop was marked by a detailed practical session on the workings of stock market, mutual funds, depositories and the procedures for investing in IPOs by Dr Rajesh Kumar Marwaha, Dr Deepak Dhingra and Prof Shivani Miglani. The key learning point of the workshop remained “start early, maintain focus, gather knowledge and invest prudently.” Various queries regarding wealth management and right investment options were raised by the students which were satisfactorily answered by the speakers.

SDP College for Women

A convocation ceremony was organised by the SDP College for Women, Ludhiana, with grandeur and dignity. The occasion was graced by the presence of Dr Dharam Singh Sandhu, member, Punjab Educational Tribunal and Jitendra Jorwal, Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana. They were accorded a ceremonious welcome by Balraj Kumar Bhasin, president, Dr Neetu Handa, principal and revered members of the management. The event commenced with an auspicious lamp-lightening ceremony by all the prolific luminaries, marking the graceful beginning of convocation proceedings. It was followed by a soulful rendition of Saraswati Vandana. The annual report of the college was presented by Dr Handa, highlighting the notable achievements and progress made by the college over the past year. During the ceremony, more than 550 students were conferred degrees by the DC. The Role of Honour awardees were especially recognised and felicitated for their outstanding academic achievements. The prominent feature of the event was unveiling of the conference book, ‘Role of Digitilised library in Implementing NEP 2020 in Higher Education Intuitions’. The momentous occasion ended on delightful note with a lunch.

Guru Nanak Engineering College

The Department of Business Administration, Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana, in association with the Industry Innovation Cell of the college, organised an interactive session on entrepreneurship. Louis Ross, an international entrepreneurial expert from PUM in the Netherlands, was invited as the resource person. PUM, an NGO engaged in promoting entrepreneurship at the global level, has been connected with the STEP-GNDEC for four years and provides support to students, as explained by Dr Sehjpal Singh, Principal, GNDEC. Dr Parampal Singh, HOD, Department of Business Administration, formally welcomed the guest and introduced the audience to the vast entrepreneurial opportunities present in India. Ross shared insights from her vast experiences and entrepreneurial trials she had been through. She inspired the students to take risks and motivated them to become self-confident. This was followed by a question-and-answer session with the audience. The audience discussed the viability of the opportunities available and the impact of AI on entrepreneurship opportunities. TNS
