Campus notes: Seven-day NSS camp underway

Ludhiana: Malwa Central College of Education for Women is organising seven day NSS camp on the theme Swachhata hi Seva, Environment and Health and Hygiene from January 2 to 8. The chief guest was Dr Mukti Gill, director, Khalsa Institutes. Other dignitaries included Principal Dr Satwant Kaur along with NSS Programme Officers Dr Mandeep Kaur, Dr Rekha and Dr Sukhwinder Singh Cheema. The programme started with an introduction to the history and objectives of the NSS followed by the national anthem. Second session of the programme featured an insightful talk by Dr Navneet Joshi, secretary, Red Cross, Ludhiana. The day concluded with a tree plantation drive, emphasising environmental conservation.

NSS camp at Kamla Lohtia SD College

Ludhiana: A seven day NSS camp commenced at Kamla Lohtia SD College, Ludhiana. After a formal inauguration by Principal Dr Mohd Saleem, NSS programme officers Prof Sandeep Chanana and Prof Kavita Arora introduced the theme of the camp “Youth for my Bharat” and apprised the NSS volunteers about the significance of this camp. They also discussed several proposed activities to be undertaken in the coming days. The various activities during the camp will include cleanliness and beautification of campus, creating awareness among people living nearby regarding cleanliness and environment upkeep, holding health check-up camps, meditational sessions, lecture on traffic awareness, lecture on basic life by doctors from Apollo Hospital and visit to old age home along with several cultural activities and creative games. Dr Saleem in his inaugural address appreciated the zeal of the students for their service to society.

Handball trials on January 5

Ludhiana: The Punjab Handball Association (PHA), affiliated to the Punjab Olympics Association, will organise the trials to select the women’s team here at the Government Senior Secondary School, Punjab Agricultural University, on January 5. Sukhbir Singh, general secretary, PHA, said the interested players could report at 12:30 pm on Sunday. The selected players would represent Punjab in the 38th National Handball Championship, scheduled to be held from January 28 to February 14 in Uttarakhand.
