Canadian neurologist delivers 5th Eggleston memorial lecture at CMC

The Christian Medical College (CMC), Ludhiana; Prof Forest Eggleston Trust and Department of Neurology successfully organised the 5th Prof Forest Eggleston Oration, a prestigious event honoring the legacy of Prof Forest Eggleston, a pioneer of surgical training in North India.

The oration was delivered by Prof Michael Hill, President of the Canadian Neurological Association and a leading expert from the Calgary Stroke Center, Canada.

Prof Hill spoke on the theme “Stroke Care: From Bedside to Bench and Back”, highlighting groundbreaking innovations, discoveries, and advances in stroke care.

His address emphasised the importance of translational research and its impact on improving patient outcomes globally. The event was organised under the aegis of the Prof Forest Eggleston Trust, with Prof Jeyaraj D. Pandian, Principal of CMC, Ludhiana, and president of the World Stroke Organisation, serving as programme chairman.

The programme began with a welcome address by Dr Amit Mahajan, who paid tribute to Prof Eggleston’s monumental contributions to surgical education. Prof Pandian further reflected on Eggleston’s impact and shared updates on the progress of the Advanced Stroke Center at CMC, Ludhiana.

Following the oration, an International Continuing Medical Education (CME) session was held, attracting over 200 delegates from Punjab and neighboring regions, including 90 healthcare professionals from state government hospitals and 30 nurses.

The CME featured three international and eight national speakers, who addressed diverse aspects of stroke diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation. There was also a separate mechanical thrombectomy workshop held for 15 participants by Dr Seby John, Cleveland Clinic, Abu Dhabi, Dr Vinit Banga, Delhi and Dr Rajeswar Sahonta, Associate Professor of Neurology, CMC.

Balraj Mann, Senior Programme Lead, Neurosciences Care Alberta, Acute Care Canada talked about the health system’s role in providing quality stroke care. Besides, the 30 nurses from government hospitals attended a dedicated session in the management of stroke care.
