Ludhiana, August 1
With the aim of encouraging the youth to take to sports, the Cycling Federation of India (CFI) is organising a talent identification programme across the country to select talented cyclists and provide them training for future competitions by enrolling them with cycling academies.
Under this scheme, selection trials will be held here at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) velodrome on August 4 from 7 am to 6 pm.
Former international cyclist and Maharaja Ranjit Singh awardee Jagdeep Singh Kahlon, who is the convener for these trials, said the selected cyclists would be sent for the final trials in Delhi. Boys and girls born in the years 2010, 2011 and 2012 in the districts of Ludhiana, Moga, Barnala and Rupnagar can participate in the trials.
Interested candidates have to pass some specific tests like standing broad jump, high jump (vertical) and 1,600m run for boys and 800m for girls. They are told to bring their identity proof such as Aadhaar card, relevant age proof certificates and four recent passport-size photographs.
Successful cyclists, after the final selection at Delhi, will be sent to the CFI run academies where they will be provided facilities such as accommodation, food, training and sports equipment free of cost.
