Charitable diagnostic laboratories at Jandali Road Ahmedgarh and Karamsar Rara Sahib are providing respite to the town’s poor patients and those from about five dozen villages around here.

These centres have been a boon for patients with chronic conditions who can’t afford to shell out large amounts of money for regular tests. These patients can now get these services for nominal charges. Additionally, patients who are unable to pay are exempted from paying even these nominal charges.

Harwinder Singh Walia, chief coordinator of the Sardar Jassa Singh Ahluwalia Welfare Club, said enthusiasts had launched the project a few years ago with the intent to pay tributes to Jassa Singh Ahluwalia and serve humanity.

“Initially, we had set up a laboratory at Jandali Road. Later, we decided to provide facilities at satellite centres,” said Harwinder, claiming that patients from almost 60 localities had been availing facilities. The organisers said several medical practitioners had been referring patients to their laboratories without personal interest.

Malerkotla DC Viraj S Tidke and SSP Gagan Ajit Singh felicitated the social workers for their outstanding performance in the field of healthcare on Independence Day.
