City girl shines in national skating meet

Wins bronze, to attend selection trials for world championship

Japleen Kaur of Ludhiana won two bronze medals in the 62nd Senior National Roller Skating Championship held at Mysuru from December 5 to 15.

Japleen’s coach JS Dhaliwal said the skater finished second runner-up in two events - track elimination and point to point road races - to win bronze medals. On finishing at the victory podium, she has been selected to attend selection trials for the 2025 World Skating Championship.

Japleen, a student of Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, has been getting coaching at the skating rink at Leisure Valley, Sarabha Nagar, here, for the past eight years. She represented the state in the National Roller Skating and Ranking Championships and won medals.

In 2018, Japleen bagged four medals - 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze - in the Junior National Championship in Chennai. She secured a bronze medal in the National School Games at Satna in Madhya Pradesh in April, this year.

Addition to this, Japleen represented Punjab in the 36th National Games at Ahmedabad and was also among the probables who appeared for the selection trials for the 2022 Asian Games held in China.
