City school boys bag 7th spot at national basketball tournament

The basketball team of Nankana Sahib Public School (NSPS), Gill Park, brought pride to the city by securing a place among the top seven teams in the recently held national level basketball tournament at Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh. Competing in the U-19 category, the team stood out among 24 participating squads from across the country.

The tournament witnessed intense competition, but the NSPS players showcased remarkable skill, teamwork and resilience throughout the matches. Their performance was lauded not just for the scores, but for the spirit and discipline they displayed on the court.

The team comprised Armaan Sharma, Prabhjot Singh, another player also named Prabhjot Singh, Dhanraj Sharma, Jatin Kumar, Udayveer Singh Mangat, Manmeet Singh, Vivek Gupta, Eknoor Singh and Harnamanpreet Singh.

Principal Harmeet Kaur Waraich expressed immense pride in the team’s achievement. “Participation at the national level is itself a matter of great pride. Our students have displayed true sportsmanship, dedication and determination. Their hard work and the guidance of their mentors has truly paid off,” she said.

The players credited their success to rigorous training and the unwavering support of their coaches and school staff. “We practiced daily, focusing on coordination and strategy. Playing at the national level was a dream come true,” said Udayveer.

Parents and school authorities gathered to celebrate the team’s return, acknowledging the effort it takes to compete at such a level. The school plans to felicitate the players in a special assembly next week.

The school’s basketball coach, who accompanied the team, said, “This is just the beginning. The boys have shown they can compete nationally—we now aim for the top three next year.”
