Arvinder Singh, a computer teacher at Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Sunet, will be honoured with Punjab State Teachers Award tomorrow. The award will be bestowed upon him at a state-level function in Hoshiarpur for his commendable contribution to the field of education.

Arvinder has served as an educator for over 19 years and is the first teacher from the institution to receive the prestigious award. He started his career in Nurpur Bet in 2005 and joined GSSS Sunet in 2012. In coordination with NRIs, NGOs and social organisations, Arvinder has worked towards promoting education and improving the school’s conditions. Under his supervision, the school constructed 16 new classrooms. Arvinder is also a member of the syllabus committee of Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) and has written books, which were published by the board. Many of his research papers were published in international journals. He has completed trainings in MHRD, NCERT, SCERT, DIET, NISHTHA etc. He also played an instrumental role in getting land donated for his school. Arvinder has received many appreciation letters from various organisations for his work at the school. Under his leadership, various camps were held for children.

For improving the quality of education in schools, he prepared many training modules. In association with the Rotary Club, he got the fee of over 564 needy students from 20 government schools paid. The fee was around Rs 8 lakh. In 2022, he was awarded with Nation Builder Award by Rotary International. He was instrumental in conducting traffic seminars at 11 government schools. Many blood donation camps were held under his guidance.

It may be mentioned here that Arvinder is the only teacher from Ludhiana to get a State Award, though the district has about 550 government schools.

Smaller districts such as Fatehgarh Sahib, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur and Mansa also have three-four teachers, who would be getting the state award tomorrow under different categories.
