Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal has ordered the installation of perforated tiles in place of regular interlocking tiles in non-walking areas (areas other than footpaths till boundary lines) in future.
The directions were issued during the meeting of Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) which was held under the chairmanship of MC Commissioner Dachalwal at the MC Zone D office on Tuesday evening.
The decision has been taken in compliance with the directions issued by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in the past. Perforated tiles help in recharging groundwater.
Further, the TAC also approved a few estimates worth around Rs 49 lakh for the installation of perforated tiles in different parts of the city.
Dachalwal said the officials concerned of B&R Department of the MC have been directed that from now on, whenever the civic body plans to install interlocking tiles, only perforated tiles would be installed in the non-walking areas (areas other than footpaths till boundary lines).
