Saturday was the last day for withdrawal of nominations and after the withdrawals, now 447 candidates are in the fray for the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation elections. As many as 216 candidates withdrew their nomination papers on Saturday.
For the Ludhiana MC, 682 applications were received, of which 663 were found correct after scrutiny and after withdrawal of 216 papers, 447 candidates are in the fray.
In the Municipal Council, Maachiwara, 14 papers were withdrawn and now, 31 candidates are in the fray. In Municipal Council, Sahnewal, 19 papers and in Mullanpur Dakha, 10 nominations were withdrawn and now, 54 and 44 candidates are in the fray, respectively.
In Maloud nagar panchayat, 12 papers were withdrawn and 31 are contesting.
In Municipal Council, Khanna, Ward 2, and Municipal Council, Samrala, Ward 12, no nomination papers were withdrawn. A total of 271 nomination papers were withdrawn on Saturday.
Electronic voting machines (EVMs) would be used for voting on December 21 and polled votes will be counted on the same day at the polling station itself.
