The Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana, in association with CityNeeds and powered by Act Humane, announced its annual Daan Utsav 4.0 in Circuit House on Monday that would be organised from October 2 to 8.
Jasdev Singh Sekhon, MC Assistant Commissioner, said the event was being held under the guidance of Mayor Inderjit Kaur and MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal.
“During the event, we collect used and new materials from residents through institutions, industries and clubs. The collected items, which include clothes, books, shoes, electronics, bedding, grocery items, and more are then segregated and made available to different NGOs. The materials will be distributed in slums through Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (RRR) centres and NGOs. The campaign is in line with the RRR model and Mission Life Programme of the Central Government,” he said.
He specified that different NGOs had given requirements that they would try to fulfil with material received during CityNeeds Daan Utsav 4.0. The e-waste collected during the campaign would be given to recycling companies and revenue generated will be donated to NGOs by the firms. Over 40 schools and colleges, clubs, industry organisations, etc, are also participating in CityNeeds Daan Utsaav and 30+ Collection Centres are established across the city. We are also conducting Daan Utsav in Amritsar in association with the district administration, Amritsar; in Jalandhar in association with Lovely Professional University; and in Mohali, in association with the Quest Group of Institutions, informed Maneet Dewan, founder, CityNeeds.
CityNeeds is an online platform under which around 80 NGOs of Ludhiana work jointly and connect with donors and volunteers interested in their project. Residents can donate between October 2 to 8 at these collection centres. They can get list of their nearest collection centre by sending a message — ‘Daan’ through WhatsApp to 9310000925 and get details of the centres.
Institutions have the most important role in mobilising youth in large numbers, who further sensitise their families to donate usable material. Students of institutions will bring segregated, packed and labelled material to our indoor stadium on Pakhowal Road from October 9 to 18. Residents and students can also get e-certificate issued by Yuwaah by UNICEF, Meri Life by Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, GoI, by participating in the event.
The material collected will be segregated and a distribution ceremony would be organised on October 29, said Harleen Kaur of Act Humane, who is the official NGO partner of the event.
