The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) under the supervision of its Chairperson-cum-Sessions Judge Harpreet Kaur Randhawa today carried out tree plantation drives under the Government of India’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ (One Tree in the Name of the Mother) campaign.

Sessions Judge Harpreet Kaur Randhawa, State Legal Services Authority member secretary Manjinder Singh and Civil Judge (Senior Division) Preeti Sukhija planted saplings at the local central, women’s, and borstal jails.

Speaking on the occasion, Randhawa emphasised the need to plant more trees in light of the adverse environmental effects of rapid urbanisation, industrialisation, and large-scale deforestation and to save environment.

“Environmental degradation is a threat to our collective survival. Every small step we take towards conservation, be it planting a tree or reducing waste, brings us closer to a sustainable future. The law can punish those who harm the environment, but true change comes when each of us realizes our role as guardians of nature,” she added.

She said the campaign involved collaboration with various stakeholders, including the district administration, Forest Department, prison authorities and several NGOs. The goal is to make Ludhiana a pollution-free city by increasing the green cover through extensive tree planting.
