Community Hall collects dust, fails the needy
The Community Hall in Doraha has failed to serve the ones in its dire need. Ever since its construction, it has served no purpose at all. The hall which was built years ago to facilitate the needy, is in a shabby condition. The Municipal Council spared no thought to renovate it to serve the greater good. The needy, for whom this hall was constructed, have no choice but to arrange paid functions or gatherings.
It is around 15 years ago that the hall was constructed under the Congress regime and later handed over to a contractor for reasons best known to the council. The contractor continued to run the same as per his whims and fancies. Later, he too left without paying the council. Not only this, the material worth lakhs, used in building the hall, too went missing due to lack of concern on the part of the council. Since then, the hall has been lying in an abandoned state, with none to give any serious thought about making it functional someday.
“The government just makes a show of serving the poor and working for their uplift. In reality, the things are entirely different. We have little idea of the construction of any community hall, since it was never made to reach us. It has failed to serve a single soul. I am a daily wager and had to spend thousands to arrange the marriage of my daughter at an acceptable place. Had it been for the community hall, much of my hard-earned money would have been saved,” said Ram Lal, who pulls a rickshaw in Doraha.
Astonishingly, after spending lakhs of rupees on the construction of the hall, the present government has come up with an entirely different plan. Some other spots, more suitable to the present government, have been chosen for new structures which are assumed to serve the greater good “from now in spirit”.
MLA Payal Manwinder Singh Giaspura when contacted said the earlier community hall was serving the least purpose due to its unplanned location, similar community halls are now being proposed at Doraha village and Sapera Basti, where the need for them is being urgently felt.
