Cong launches door-to-door drive to collect signatures

Office-bearers and activists of various wings of Congress are working towards extending the party’s nationwide ‘Vote chor, gaddi chhor’ campaign beyond the party cadre.

Led by their respective leaders at Raikot, Amargarh and Payal Assembly segments, party members have started a door-to-door campaign to seek signatures on a proforma, highlighting the demands of the party.

Availability of a readable voters’ lists with photographs, updated lists, accessible system to redress complaints regarding wrongly deleted votes, action against government personnel coercing voters and avoidance to undertake last moment changes in the electorate; were among the demands being made by the signatories.

Block Congress president Deepak Sharma said senior functionaries of various wings of the party, including elected members and aspirants for contesting future elections, had been reaching out to residents of their respective areas to support the signature campaign for the party’s ‘Vote chor gaddi chhor’ drive.

“Having received guidelines from Fatehgarh Sahib MP Dr Amar Singh Boparai we started a door-to-door campaign to get the maximum number of signatures on forms, containing the party’s demands,” said Deepak, maintaining that all forms would be collected and sent to the central office through MP Boparai. Deepak said Congress activists had been advised to extend the campaign beyond just the cadre.

Deepak said the signatures were scheduled to be submitted with the Election Commission of India on October 15.

Congress leaders Kamal Dhaliwal, former MLA Jasvir Singh Khangura, Smit Mann, Gurjot Dhindsa, former MLA Lakhvir Singh Lakha Payal and Kamil Amar Singh are among those who are actively working for the success of the signature campaign in the region.
