Cong wins 7 seats, SAD fails to open account in Dakha
The results of the Dakha Mullanpur Municipal Council elections have given a clear majority to the Congress party, while the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) failed to impress the voters. The AAP managed to clinch only three seats, while independent candidates also got three seats each. Since out of the 13 wards, Congress won the majority of the seats, it will again form a house in Dhaka. Interestingly, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) failed to get even one seat. In all 13 wards, seven candidates of AAP trailed, while on six seats, Congress candidates were the runners-up.
From Ward 2, Subhash Kumar of Congress polled 511 votes, while the trailing candidate, Prince Kumar from AAP, got only 221 votes. Congress’s Surinderpal Kaur from Ward 3 got 254 and Jagdev Kaur of AAP got 183 votes, Congress candidate Jaswinder Singh of Ward 4 bagged 314 and AAP’s Suresh Kumar won 233 votes, Congress’s Sukhwinder Kaur from Ward 7 got 495, while Joshika Joshi of the AAP got 156, Congress’s Telu Ram Bansal from Ward 10 got 412 votes and Rajesh Kumar of AAP got 194 votes, Congress’s Bimla Rani from Ward 11 got 546, while AAP’s Deepti Verma got 335 votes, and Congress’s Inderpal Singh from Ward 3 got 223 votes and AAP’s Sukhdev Singh got only 199.
Independent candidates, namely Sarabjit Kaur from Ward 1, got 193 votes, while Congress’ Harvinder Kaur Sidhu got 185. Another independent candidate, Tarsem Kaur from Ward 5, secured 217 votes, while trailing Lachhmi Devi of Congress got 96. Independent candidate Balbir Chand from Ward 6 got 436 votes, while trailing Dilbag Singh of Congress got 97.
The ruling party candidate Balwinder Singh from Ward 8 got 352 votes, while trailing Balbir Chand of Congress got 287; Saroj Bansal from Ward 9 got 336 votes, while trailing Monica Rani of Congress got 274; Amandeep Singh from Ward 12 polled 245 votes, while runners-up Ishan Singla got 185.
The reason for SAD’s failure to get even a single seat is believed to be the minimal campaigning done by prominent SAD leader Manpreet Singh Ayali, among other senior members of the party.
