After the BJP unveiled its manifesto for the state and specific cities, including Gurugram, the Congress party dismissed it as a mere list of the ruling party’s failures.
Addressing a public rally here, Congress leader Udai Bhan criticised the BJP. He said, “The party doesn’t understand the meaning of this word,” he said. “They have been in power for 10 years, yet Gurugram, the millennium city, continues to face a civic infrastructure crisis. If you look at their manifesto, it is actually a list of their failures. They were in the Municipal Corporation last term — why not talk about what they achieved then?”
Bhan was campaigning in support of the Congress’s mayoral candidate, Seema Pahuja. Pahuja also weighed in, accusing the BJP of attempting to “deceive the city”. She said many of these problems had been unresolved for a decade. “This isn’t the first time they claim to have a triple-engine government. Last term, it was the BJP in the MC, but the mayor and councillors were mere puppets with no power. The senior party leaders had constant interference and their vested interests hampered progress. Now, they’ve chosen a candidate who exemplifies how women are treated as rubber stamps in civic agencies. She has no experience and has yet to address the people,” Pahuja added.
Local Congress leader Pankaj Dawar also criticised the BJP, claiming the party’s insecurity led them to make all potential candidates run as independents. Dawar alleged the BJP was openly stating anyone who wins will be made to join their party. “The recent suspensions are all for show. They are openly saying that if independent candidates win, they will rejoin the BJP. The party knows the people are fed up with them, so they are trying to fool them with independent candidates,” said Dawar.
