Couple, aide booked for duping locals in immigration frauds
Police have booked a couple and their aide for allegedly duping local residents of lakhs in immigration frauds. The accused would take huge sums of money from their clients in lieu of helping them move abroad.
In first case, Baljit Kaur, a resident of Guru Nanak Colony said she wanted to send her son Navpreet Singh to Canada and the accused who posed as travel agents, Harjinder Singh and Navneet Kaur, had promised help arranging the visa. The accused took an advance payment of Rs 7 lakh from her but failed to send her son to Canada. They later refused to return the money.
Police registered another complaint against Mani Verma of Sahnewal on the complaint of Parmider Kaur of Dholewal.
The complainant alleged that accused had taken Rs 2.46 lakh from her on the pretext of sending her to Portugal. But despite taking money, they failed to arrange a visa and refused a refund.
