Couple booked for culpable homicide after killing elderly
A couple has been booked for allegedly beating up the man’s father, who later succumbed to the injuries. The police registered a case yesterday against the couple on the charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Complainant Kiranvir Singh of Walipur Khurd said that he was a permanent resident in Canada. His father Baljit Singh had died only one-and-a-half years after his birth. After his father’s death his uncle (father’s elder brother) Jagroop Singh had been looking after their family. Singh added that about three years ago his mother Harjit Kaur also died. He was sent to Canada by his uncle then. His uncle used to talk to him about two or three times a week. His uncle had once told that his (uncle) son Guriqbal Singh and daughter-in-law Surinder Kaur used to torture him and at times would not even give him food. His uncle feared that they might kill him one day.
- Complainant Kiranvir Singh of Walipur Khurd said: “On December 6, when I reached India, I was shocked to know that the last rites of my uncle had already been performed. I was told by someone that the deceased had injury marks on his head and he might have been murdered.
Kiranvir said, “About two or three days before the death of my uncle, I got a call from him and he told me that he was badly beaten up by his son and his wife. On December 3, I got a call from my uncle’s daughter, who informed me that her father had died. I told her not to perform cremation as I would be reaching India soon.”
“On December 6, when I reached India, I was shocked to know that the last rites of my uncle had already been performed and accused Guriqbal said that the body could not be kept for long as the same might have decomposed, so the last rites had to be performed. When I investigated the matter on my own, I was told by someone that the deceased had injury marks on his head and he might have been murdered,” revealed the complainant.
He further asserted that one of his acquaintances gave him a pen drive containing a video which showed Guriqbal and his wife Surinder Kaur beating up his uncle badly, which allegedly led to his death. Later, to prevent any police action, the couple forcibly cremated the body, he said and got a police complaint lodged with the Dakha police station. The police have launched an investigation into the matter.
