Today, 127 more tested positive for Covid while two persons succumbed to the virus. The number of positive cases has gone to 2,566 and the death toll to 60.

A 51-year-old person from Chhoti Dhandari lost his life to Covid at Rajindra Hospital, Patiala. The other victim, a 48-year-old resident of Bishan Nagar, died at the PGI.

A total of 57,870 samples have been taken in the district so far, of which the reports of 1,193 are pending.

As many as 20,021 persons have been sent to home quarantine so far. The number of people under home quarantine at present is 3,627. Today, 287 more were asked to home-quarantine themselves.

Ex-dist BJP chief infected

A former president of the Ludhiana BJP has also tested positive. Earlier also, two leaders from the party tested positive after which all party activities were cancelled.

A 44-year-old man with a travel history of Husainpura and another, who had travelled to Bihar from Moti Nagar, have tested positive.

5 cops contract virus

Five more police personnel have tested positive. They belong to Mundian Khurd, Landra, Samrala and Doraha.

Khanna cases reach 112

Four frontline workers posted at Doraha, who gave samples at the Civil Hospital, Khanna, have tested positive. They include a 55-year-old man from Model Town and a 48-year-old resident of Krishna Nagar. The number of Covid cases from Khanna town has reached 112.

5 patients untraceable

Five persons testing positive today are untraceable. Twenty six persons with influenza-like infection, five healthcare workers and five pregnant women are among the fresh cases.

A 60-year-old woman, a pre-operative case from Doraha, and a 49-year-old resident of Basti Jodhewal, also a pre-operative case, have been found infected.

The others are either contacts of Covid patients or cases reported at OPDs. They belong to Mundian Khurd, Guru Amar Das Nagar, Hargobibd Nagar, Sherpur, Giaspura, Haibowal, Issewal, Konke Kalan, Samrala, Doraha, Humbran, Janta Nagar, Jamalpur, Alamgir, Giaspura, Bhagwan Nagar, Chotti Jawaddi, Mahaveer Nagar, Mullanpur, Moti Nagar, Focal Point, Pakhowal Road, Janakpuri, Chandigarh Road, Basti Jodhewal, Shimlapuri, Model Town, Rishi Nagar, Miller Ganj, Rajiv Enclave, Kitchlu Nagar, Ghumar Mandi, Rajguru Nagar, Deep Nagar, Tajpur Road, Atam Nagar, GLADA Heights, Omaxe Royal Residency, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Chamba Street and Sham Nagar.

In an attempt to arrest the increase in Covid-19 cases in Ludhiana, the mass media teams of the Health Department are working even on Sundays to sensitise people to the guidelines. According to the Punjab Government’s guidelines, there will be a complete lockdown every Sunday with specific restrictions on movements. However, essential services and shops will remain open.

The Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Kumar Bagga, said the main motive behind this Sunday lockdown was to break the Covid chain.
