Covid volunteers protest outside RS MP’s house, seek regular jobs
The Punjab Police Corona Volunteers held a protest outside MP Sanjeev Arora’s house here on Saturday. Volunteers were demanding that they should be provided regular jobs by the state government as they did not think twice to risk their lives during the pandemic.
The president of the association, Pawanvir, said they were total 160 in number, belonging to various districts across the state.
He said health volunteers, who had worked during the Covid-19 pandemic, were regularised by the government whereas they were left in the lurch.
The volunteers said they held a protest and demanded from the government to regularise them. They claimed that the MP had given an assurance to take up the matter with the government. The volunteers also met Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain.
Kulwant Singh, another volunteer, said they came forward in difficult times when nobody wanted to take any risk to their lives. He said for the past around five years, they were struggling for their rights.
Meanwhile, DC Himanshu Jain said the matter was already under active consideration of the community affairs division of the Punjab Police. Details had been sought by them. “We are sending the memorandum of the volunteers submitted on Saturday to them for their consideration,” the DC said.
