Crane falls on electricity poles in Ludhiana, power supply hit in some areas

A crane brought to cut some trees outside Nagesh Knitwears premises near Jalandhar Bypass Chowk fell on some electricity poles, due to which many of these fell or got uprooted, along with the power lines, and lay scattered on the main road. Luckily, no major accident took place. Due to the incident, electricity supply in areas like Aman Nagar, Akash Nagar and some other areas was affected for more than 24 hours.

Last evening, the factory management had called a crane to cut down some trees around the factory. During the operation, a big tree fell on the crane and it went out of control and fell on a few electricity poles and high voltage lines, breaking them or uprooting them in the process.

According to PSPCL officials, due to the accident, the powercom has suffered financial loss of several lakhs.

Immediately after getting information about the incident, PSPCL officials reached the spot and launched efforts on a war footing to restore the power supply in the area. Load of some of the areas was shifted to other transformers with immediate effect while several areas continued to face power cut. The employees of the powercom remained on the spot till late night to reinstall the damaged poles.

Salem Tabri SHO Inspector Amritpal Singh said that the PSPCL had not submitted any written complaint. He got to know that the factory had agreed to compensate the loss suffered by the PSPCL. No FIR has been registered in the case.
