Crime branch arrests truck owner, driver with 30 kg poppy husk, Rs 10 lakh drug money
The crime branch of Ludhiana police today claimed to have nabbed three persons and recovered 30 kg of poppy husk and Rs 1.10 lakh in cash from their possession. The truck in which the narcotic was being transported was also impounded.
Crime branch in-charge Inspector Beant Juneja, in a statement issued here, stated that the police team was present at Sanjay Gandhi Chowk, Tajpur Road, to keep a check on suspicious persons and suspicious vehicles after ASI Nirmal Singh received the information that Deepak Kumar alias Deepu, a resident of village Bawdi Kalan in district Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh, was driving a truck bearing the registration number PB10GK9011, belonging to Gurdeep Singh alias Monu, a resident of Mohalla New Subhash Nagar Tibba here.
As per the secret information, Deepak Kumar alias Deepu and Gurdeep Singh alias Monu, together brought poppy husk from Madhya Pradesh and kept it in the cabin of their truck. The smugglers had to deliver the narcotics to one Sunil Kumar alias Raman Singh of Phase-1, Dugri.
Inspector Juneja revealed that accordingly, the police team laid a trap at strategic places and after intercepting the truck at a naka, a checking was carried out during which the poppy husk and drug money was recovered. After nabbing the two accused, Sunil who was to receive the supply, was also nabbed.
The accused Gurdeep is a transporter, Deepak Kumar is a truck driver and Sunil Kumar is a taxi driver. Sunil has a criminal background as four cases, including two related to drug smuggling, were registered against him in the past.
