Cyber fraudsters ‘hack’ ACP’s phone

The cyber cell has initiated a probe after Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sumit Sood’s phone was allegedly hacked and WhatsApp messages were sent to his contacts.

The messages read, “Your challan has been issued. To pay the challan, click on the link below.” The ACP, who is posted in Ludhiana East, has been on leave for two days. He is currently out of town and has no connection with the traffic police. His phone is reportedly switched off.

Police Division 7 SHO Gagandeep Singh confirmed the development and stated that a probe has been launched.

Messages were also sent to police personnel and officers whose numbers were on the ACP’s contact list.
