Guts and grit of Punjabi youth, both male and female, kept spectators glued to their seats at the sports stadium, Suhavia Patti, at Kila Raipur, when they showcased courage and determination while presenting daredevil events on the second day of the Rural Olympics being organised by the Punjab Government here on Saturday.

Hockey, volleyball , kabaddi, tractor-trailer reversing, sack race, urn race, tricycle race, besides traditional races were other attractions of the day of the three-day mega event being hosted by the Directorate of Cultural Affairs Archeology and Museum for the second year.

Being a public holiday at almost all government offices, sports lovers and enthusiasts thronged the stadium along with their families. Children, youths, senior citizens and women responded positively to the call made by Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Sond to be a part of the event.

The U-14 Kabbadi National Style (women) tournament was won by the Baba Deep Singh Sports Club, Amritsar, by defeating Government High School, Bihla, 22-06. In the U-17 Women Kabbadi National Style, the girls of Baba Deep Singh Sports Club defeated Government High School Girls 38-12 to win the final.

The women hockey teams of Amritsar and Punjabi University, Patiala, defeated PIS Bathinda (2-1) and Chandigarh (2-0), respectively, in the semifinal matches held today.

In volleyball matches Duley village team defeated Kila Raipur team 21-17, while the Bassian Bet team defeated Daad village team 21-13. Ahmedgarh seniors’ volleyball team won the match against Dangora village team 21-16.

Harminder Jit Singh of Fatehgarh Panj Garayian, Amandeep Singh of Bamal (Dhuri) and Jasvir Singh of Pithon village ( Bathinda) won the first three positions in reversing tractor-trailers.

In shot put (men), Armandeep Singh 1, Watanpreet Singh 2, Mankirat Singh 3; long jump (men) Avinash 1, Lakhvir Singh 2, Nitish Kumar 3; sack race (boys) Samarjot Singh 1, Ansh Gupta 2, Manish Kumar 3, and in tricycle race Mohammad Bilal 1, Yashpal 2, Sukhwinder Singh 3.

In shot put (women), Dolly 1, Ritika 2, and Harmandeep Kaur 3; long jump (women) Avleen Kaur 1, Simran 2, Arashdeep Kaur 3, and in urn race (women) Jasvir Kaur 1, Gagandeep Kaur 2 and Anita Gupta 3.
