DAV Hoshiarpur bags overall trophy at PU Zonal Youth Fest

The four-day Panjab University Zonal Youth and Cultural Heritage Festival, hosted at Malwa Central College of Education for Women, Ludhiana, concluded amid celebrations of the state’s rich artistic, literary and cultural legacy.

DAV College of Education, Hoshiarpur, clinched the overall trophy, whereas Malwa Central College of Education for Women, Ludhiana, was the first runners-up and Government College of Education, Sector 20, Chandigarh, was second runners-up.

The event was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain. Dr Sukhjinder Rishi, Director Youth Welfare Department, Panjab University, Chandigarh; Dr Tejinder Gill, Joint Director, Department of Youth Welfare, Panjab University, Chandigarh; Dr Ravi Inder Singh, Dean College Development Council, Panjab University, Chandigarh; Dr Mukesh Arora, former fellow, Panjab University, Chandigarh; Dr Pragati Verma, CMFO, Ludhiana and Kamal Kataria, manager SBI.20 alumnae also graced the occasion. The festival brought together students from 25 colleges, who showcased creativity, heritage and youthful dynamism across a wide range of events.

The first day witnessed spirited performances in events such as group shabad and group bhajan, classical music vocal, group singing (Indian), light music vocal: geet and ghazal, light music vocal: folk song, orchestra (Indian), group folk.

On Day two, competitions like skit, mimicry, mime, one-act play, histrionics, debate, elocution, poem recitation, muhavredaar vartalaap and quiz were held.

On the third day competitions like ladies traditional and ritualistic songs, gidhha, jhumar, Malwai giddha, sammi, luddi, bhangra, creative writing, handwriting, embroidery (bagh, phulkari, dasuti/ cross stich), crochet work, pakhi designing, knitting, mehndi designing were held.

On the final day, Dr Gurmit Singh extended the vote of thanks and expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the principals, contingent incharges and participants from all 25 colleges, whose presence and active participation made the fest a grand success. He especially extended a heartfelt thanks to the participants and their mentors. He also particularly acknowledged the tireless efforts and dedication of the entire college staff—both teaching and non-teaching. The festival concluded with a prize distribution ceremony.
