The AAP government’s campaign “Yudh Nasheyan Virudh” has again came under scanner as three persons died after consuming poisonous “substance” along the Noorwala Road here on Wednesday night. They have been identified as Debi, Manga and Rinku, all of whom were in the age group of 40 to 45 years. Following the incident, the police took samples from a liquor shop from where they had purchased the liquor. The trio had later consumed it on a vacant plot following which they were taken to the Civil Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

The SMO, Civil Hospital, Dr Harpreet Singh, said that the exact cause of death was still unknown as the authorities were waiting for the viscera report.

Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma, however, said that it could be a poisonous hooch. “We have collected the samples for checking everything. It was like raspberry desi liquor, the report is awaited,” he said. “We have registered a complaint on the basis of a statement made by the fourth person, who was sitting with these three when the incident took place,” said Sharma. An official with the Excise Department said that the department would not comment on anything now. “If someone empties the bottle of Bisleri and puts anything in it, we cannot put blame either on the brand or the shop from where it was purchased. We are trying to get more details,” he said.

Meanwhile, the relatives of the deceased had gathered outside the Civil Hospital mortuary. They refused to talk to the media. Rajkumar, brother of deceased Rinku, said that his brother used to consume liquor daily. When asked if he consumed anything other than liquor, the brother said, ”He put something on paper, folded it and consumed it at times.”

“No one is giving us the exact cause and we are totally confused and infuriated with this kind of approach of the authorities,” said a person, who had come from Gurgaon to get the body of his relative at the Civil Hospital.
