Ludhiana DC inspects work to strengthen dhussi bandh in Sasrali Colony

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Himanshu Jain inspected the ongoing dhussi bandh strengthening work in Sasrali Colony village, assuring the people that the situation in Ludhiana remains fully under control.

Accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Amarjit Bains, SDM (East) Jasleen Kaur Bhullar, drainage department officials, Indian Army personnel, and local residents, the DC assessed the progress of the embankment reinforcement.

He announced that following discussions with Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) officials on Monday, water release from the dam would be reduced from 65,000 cusecs to 50,000 cusecs. The reduction was expected to lower water level significantly in the river, further stabilising the situation. He highlighted that a stone stud was being constructed under expert supervision to prevent soil erosion along the bandh, ensuring its structural integrity.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasised that dedicated teams were working around the clock at all critical points along the bandh, with no immediate cause for concern. He expressed gratitude to villagers for their unwavering support in the strengthening effort and stated that the district administration was indebted to them for their unwavering cooperation.

Jain also commended the Indian Army and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) for their critical technical assistance in reinforcing embankments and continuously monitoring vulnerable areas. While excessive water pressure had previously caused minor soil erosion, allowing water to seep into nearby fields, the drop in the water level was expected to alleviate these issues.

He said senior district officials were stationed at key locations along with bandh, maintaining 24x7 vigilance to ensure the situation remains under control.

Later, the Deputy Commissioner also visited Kasabad village and reviewed the operations. He also lauded villagers and volunteers for supporting the administration.
