On the fourth death anniversary (Yaum-e-Wafaat) of former Shahi Imam Maulana Habib-ur-Rehman Sani Ludhianvi, a major humanitarian gesture unfolded at the historic Jama Masjid in Ludhiana. The Ahrar Foundation, operating under the mosque’s aegis, distributed Rs 50 lakh to families affected by the recent floods across the state.
Addressing the gathering, Shahi Imam Maulana Muhammad Usman Rahmani Ludhianvi paid tribute to his father, recalling the legacy of public service and compassion he inherited from him. “Serving the nation and society was a lesson passed down to me by my father,” he said, adding that, “In this time of crisis, the unity and love shown by the Muslim community across India in response to our appeal is deeply moving.”
The relief effort included not only financial assistance but also ration supplies for families whose homes were severely damaged. The Shahi Imam said the initiative welcomed participation from people of all faiths, underscoring that “sharing sorrow in times of hardship is the true essence of religion.”
He further noted that Punjab had historically stood by all communities during their times of need, and the influx of support from diverse groups today was a testament to the state’s spirit of service and sacrifice. “We are not merely handing out aid,” he said, “We are expressing our love and solidarity.” The Ahrar Foundation traces its roots to the Majlis-e-Ahrar-e-Islam Hind, a prominent Muslim political party that actively opposed British colonial rule during India’s freedom struggle. Today, the foundation continues its social service work.
