Ludhiana, August 7

Ludhiana district today saw a jump of 127 cases in a single day and 10 deaths in the Covid-19 tally. There are 1,427 active patients in the district. The number of Covid cases reported in the district so far is 4,512 and the death toll 148.

Of the 10 Covid fatalities, three patients were also suffering from cancer. They belonged to Shaheed Karnail Singh Nagar, Kartar Nagar and Sarabha Nagar. Two residents of Sham Nagar and Shaheed Karnail Singh Nagar were both diabetic and hypertensive also. A patient from Model Town was also a diabetic and the one from Jatana was also hypertensive. A 60-year-old woman patient from Daba was asthmatic and a 57-year-old man from Ashok Vihar was both diabetic and heart patient. A 48-year-old deceased had no co-morbidity.

In its first seven days, August has witnessed 60 Covid deaths and 1,266 positive cases.

Meanwhile, Ludhiana East MLA Sanjay Talwar tested positive today. He, along with his wife, two sons and brother, all tested positive. The family got their tests done after one of their relatives tested positive. They all have been placed under home quarantine.

Of the 127 cases reported today, 34 each are from flu corners and contact-tracing and eight from OPDs. Three persons are police personnel, five healthcare workers, two under trials and two are domestic travellers.

The district administration is working hard to enhance the bed capacity in the district for level 3 patients, so that no Covid patient is denied admission. Private hospitals have been asked to reserve 50 per cent of their capacity for Covid patients.
