As part of the ongoing anti-dengue campaign initiated by the district Health Department, a large-scale inspection was conducted at 104 police stations across Ludhiana on Friday. Alarmingly, dengue larvae were detected at 10 police stations, highlighting the need for increased vigilance and preventive action even within vital public institutions. The campaign was carried out under the leadership of Civil Surgeon Dr Ramandeep Kaur, who directed 352 health teams across the district in the coordinated operation.
In addition to the police station, health teams visited 614 vacant plots, 22,648 houses and examined nearly 40,000 water containers, of which 121 were found positive for mosquito larvae. Larvae were also detected in 92 residential houses, signalling the urgent need for improved public awareness and action during the monsoon.
Dr Ramandeep Kaur stated, “The presence of larvae at multiple police stations was a reminder that no place was immune to the problem. District Epidemiologist Dr Sheetal Narang said, “Vector control depends on weekly cleaning of water containers, tanks, coolers and flower pots. Dengue is entirely preventable if communities stay alert and committed.” As part of the awareness outreach, a health talk was delivered to SHOs at various police stations, urging them to maintain hygiene within police station premises and lead by example. Narang stated, “Every covered or cleaned water container is one step closer to breaking the breeding cycle of mosquitos. Police stations must inspire locals in the area to follow suit in keeping their surroundings mosquito-free.”
The district Health Department will continue its intensified anti-dengue activities in the coming days and appeals to all citizens, departments and institutions to remain vigilant, adopt preventive practices and contribute to making Ludhiana a dengue-free district.
