Devotees take out grand procession in Sahnewal to mark Gurpurb

The management of Gurdwara Gobind Singh ji (Patshahi Dasvi), with wholehearted support from the local sangat, took out a grand procession to mark the upcoming Gurpurb of Guru Nanak Dev on Tuesday.

The streets of Sahnewal came alive with spiritual fervour as devotees of all ages joined the procession, singing hymns in praise of the Guru. The soulful recitation of “Satguru Nanak pargateya, miti dhund jag chanan hoya” accorded serenity to the surroundings. The nagar kirtan commenced from Gurdwara Patshahi Dasvi and traversed through key routes in Sahnewal. Panj Pyare led the procession, followed by beautifully decorated floats, depicting scenes from Guru Nanak’s life and teachings. Gatka performances added vigour and enthusiasm to the congregation. Langar (community kitchen) stalls were set up along the route, serving refreshments and meals to the sangat, which kept multiplying till late evening to be a part of the nagar kirtan and seek the Guru’s blessings.

Kirtan performed by ragis and visual displays by the management of the gurdwara reminded residents of Guru Nanak’s timeless teachings—most significantly his lesson of humanity. Volunteers distributed pamphlets and booklets highlighting Guru Nanak’s emphasis on universal brotherhood, compassion and truthful living. From youths to the elderly, everyone participated enthusiastically and walked along the nagar kirtan till late evening. Floral decorations, banners and spiritual messages adorned the streets.

The gurdwara and the adjoining streets were decorated with balloons. Crackers were burst and the atmosphere was filled with religious sanctity and charm which was doubled by the presence of a large numbers at the gurdwaras on the procession’s route.

President of gurdwara managing committee Gurdeep Singh Tona, secretary Gurmeet Singh Pappu Talwara, Kirtan Babbu, Hazoor Singh, Gurmeet Singh Lalli, Ravinder Singh Babbu along with market committee chairman Hemraj Raji, council president Pooja Rani, councillors Jaswinder Kaur Talwara, Kulwinder Dhaliwal, Swarnjeet Kaur, Palwinder Singh, Kulwinder Kala, Rajnder Raju, Bhupinder Singh and Suresh Sonu were among those who participated in the nagar kirtan and encouraged people to seek the Guru’s blessings by being an part of the holy congregation.
