Dhaliwal sisters shine at karate championship in Malaysia

Having achieved prestigious positions in various international karate competitions, Aseem Dhaliwal and Arashreet Dhaliwal, known lovingly as the Dhaliwal sisters, have once again brought laurels to the town by bagging gold and bronze medals at the 10th International Open Karate Championship ‘KL Mayors Cup’ 2025 in Malaysia.

While Aseem won a gold in the U-14 category, Anshreet bagged the bronze for her country.

Back home after registering victory despite their ill health, the duo had once against resumed their earlier endeavour to sensitise girls in the region about the need to learn martial arts for self-defence.

They have also announced to organise camps and seminars for spreading awareness about the need for leaning martial arts for minimising crime against women and girls.

“We wish to launch a campaign to motivate more women to adopt martial arts as an element of their lifestyle and showcase their talent at national and international levels,” said the sisters.

Dhaliwal sisters said several of their pupils and trainees had exhibited a boost in confidence, besides noticing a boost in self-esteem after learning basic steps of the martial art.

Dhaliwal sisters were chosen for the prestigious championship on the basis of their achievements in past competitions.

Their outstanding performance at the JKS South Asia Karate Championship held in UP earlier, wherein both the sisters won gold medals in their respective categories served as a boost and eligibility for participation the present championship.

The duo had also showcased their talent in the South Asia Championship organised by Japan Karate-Do Shudokan India, approved by the Karate India Organisation (KIO).
