A security guard attached to a Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Ludhiana Range, was assaulted by a group of people, including a milk vendor and his aides, resulting in a fractured skull and a serious spinal injury to the gunman. At present, the constable is admitted to a hospital.
Initial investigations suggest that the attack was perpetrated by a milk vendor, identified as Simranjit Singh, his father and three other accomplices.
Following the incident, the Ludhiana police registered a case and initiated an intensive manhunt for the suspects.
The victim, constable Gagandeep Singh, said on November 13, after completing his duty, he and three friends — Pratap Singh, Jaspreet Singh, alias Happy, and Tushar — were travelling in a Maruti Swift car. They were going to Balachaur, near Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Nawanshahr, as Pratap intended to inspect a used car for purchase.
After reaching Garhi Fazal Road, as they passed Simranjit Singh, who was commuting from the opposite direction on a bike laden with aluminum milk cans, their car grazed his two-wheeler. The minor contact instantly provoked Simranjit, who began abusing them. Afterwards, he called his father and friends, who, armed with sharp weapons, launched a vicious assault on him.
