Weightlifter Gurdeep Singh Dullet was felicitated for bringing laurels to the region by winning the bronze medal in the 109-plus kilograms event at the Commonwealth Games 2022 at Birmingham.

Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Khanna Tarunpreet Singh Sond and ADC Amarjit Singh Bains led the organisers in felicitating Dullet, son of a farmer Bhag Singh of Majri Rasulra village.

Being an employee of the Indian Railways, the Ministry of Indian Railways has acknowledged the achievement of the weightlifter.

Acknowledging contributions of Shubhkaran Singh Rana and Mohan Singh (coaches), speakers said persistent and coordinated efforts by all had instilled confidence in Dullet.

The 26-year-old athlete lifted 390 kg (167 kg plus 223 kg) for a podium finish and India’s first-ever medal in the heavyweight category. With his 223-kg clean and jerk effort Dullet bettered his own national record.
