DSO holds orientation meet for district sports nurseries’ coaches

A meeting of newly appointed coaches and supervisors for the district sports nurseries was held at Guru Nanak Stadium here on Tuesday. Kuldeep Chugh, District Sports Officer (DSO), Ludhiana, chaired the meeting, which was attended by coaches recruited by the Punjab Sports Department through the Punjab Ex-Servicemen Corporation (PESCO), along with coaches from the local office of the Sports Department.

The DSO welcomed the coaches upon joining the department for managing the nurseries and wished them success. A total of 17 coaches and one supervisor have so far taken up duties at various nurseries across the district. A representative from PESCO familiarised the coaches with coaching guidelines and encouraged them to perform their duties with sincerity.

These nurseries have been established in rural areas so that aspiring sportspersons under the age of 18 can access training facilities closer to their homes. Talented will be enrolled at the main coaching centres and may be recommended for admission to the Punjab Institute of Sports in Mohali, the DSO stated.
