Eight nabbed with illicit liquor, heroin

The police have arrested eight persons for allegedly smuggling drugs and narcotics, besides consuming these.

72,000 ml of liquor and 21 gm of heroin was recovered from the accused, who were booked under various sections of the Excise Act and the NDPS Act at various police stations across the region.

SSP Gagan Ajit Singh said officials, had nabbed eight persons, including a woman, for allegedly consuming and/or possessing narcotic substances. The accused were nabbed through nakas, organised as part of enhanced surveillance on the roads connecting local areas with the localities falling under Ludhiana (West) constituency where byelections are to be held.

In the first incident, police officials nabbed Kuldeep Singh Haria of Jandali Road while he was carrying 72 bottles (54,000 ml) of Empire Saunfi liquor in his car, which was also seized by the police.

Ahmedgarh Police Station SHO cornered and arrested Kausar, alias Kaki, of Kangwanwal village and recovered 5 gm of heroin from her.

Officials also nabbed Dalvir Singh Cheena of Adampal village with 24 bottles of alcohol in his car at Mohammad Garh.

In another case, the sleuths nabbed Dilvar Shah of Kanganwal village and recovered 6 gm of heroin from him. Mandeep Singh Kala and Harjit Singh Sonu of Kanganwal were arrested with 7 gm of heroin. Kapil and Shamshad Mohammad of Kanganwal village were nabbed while they were adminestering heroin.
