A Ludhiana-based jeweller, Sham Sundar Verma, filed a complaint against his employee Vinay Kumar Chauhan for allegedly taking away gold jewellery worth lakhs. According to Verma, Chauhan was recruited as a salesman at his store, Shanu Jewellers, and was given gold jewellery to sell to customers.

However, he allegedly sold the jewellery and pocketed the money. His employer came to know about the incident when Chauhan failed to return to the store. An investigation revealed that he took away 12 diamond-studded gold ladies’ rings worth lakhs.

Verma reported the incident to the police, stating that the suspect had been working at the store for some time and had gained his trust. The police on Friday registered a case against Chauhan. The police were searching for the suspect, who is currently on the run.

According to the police, the suspect had told his employer that he had sold the rings to a jeweller in Jalandhar but when Verma contacted the jeweller, he denied buying any jewellery from Chauhan. The police launched a probe into the matter and efforts were on to recover the stolen jewellery.
