Local Bodies Minister Ravjot Singh and Rajya Sabha MP Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal reviewed the Buddha Dariya rejuvenation project during a meeting held at the Jamalpur STP on Saturday.

Strict directions were issued to the staff concerned of the Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board (PWSSB) and civic body to ensure proper functioning of sewage treatment plants (STP) and effluent treatment plants (ETPs), otherwise stern departmental action would be taken against them.

Dr Ravjot Singh and Seechewal directed the officials of the civic body and PPCB to stop dumping of cow dung and untreated industrial waste into the Buddha Dariya and act strict against violators, wherever required.

MLA Ashok Prashar, MLA Daljit Singh Bhola Grewal, Mayor Inderjit Kaur, MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal, MC Additional Commissioner Paramdeep Singh, ADCP Jashandeep Singh Gill, SDM Jasleen Bhullar, SE Ekjot Singh and PWSSB Executive Engineer Balraj Singh were among other officials present in the meeting.

strict directions have been issued to the officials that no laxity would be tolerated in this regard. Strict departmental action would be taken against the officials in case of any delay.

Earlier, the minister and the MP also visited the ‘Sangat Ghat’ established by the latter on the banks of the Buddha Dariya. Dr Singh appreciated the efforts put in by Seechewal for reducing pollution in the dariya.

After the meeting, MLA Grewal, MLA Prashar and the MC Commissioner also conducted a meeting with dairy owners at the Tajpur Road dairy complex. The dairy owners were urged to stop dumping cow dung into the dariya and support the authorities, otherwise strict action would be taken against them.
